Ninne Pelladatha
One fine day Nagarjuna called KrishnaVasmy asking if he could send some songs shot
on Maheswari as they were searching for a second heroine for the film
Ramudochhadu. Nag was so impressed after seeing the songs and the
lead scenes from Gulabi that he is interested in making a film with KrishnaVamsy and
would start the project immediately. KrishnaVamsy was shocked and acted smart by saying
that he would wait until Nag saw the entire film and decide after the
box-office fate of Gulabi. KrishnaVamsy acted this way because Nag turned cold feet
after the incident of AOR. Nag made KrishnaVamsy agree to do the project forcibly. Nag was
so impressed that he is least bothered about the success of Gulabi and
announced a project in his own production starring himself under the
direction of KrishnaVamsy. After that, Gulabi was released and became a trend
setter for all the love stories. It was an instant winner and became a
sensational hit.
KrishnaVamsy went to Vizag to see the locations for Nag's movie. At that time he
got the feedback from Nag and his well wishers that first half of Gulabi
was mind blowing and second half is too violent and was compared with
Varma's style. KrishnaVamsy was disappointed and dropped the story he is having in mind (later
on that story became Samudram) and wanted to do a film contrast to Gulabi
which is never touched by Varma. So he decided to do something similar to
HAHK and DDLJ with telugu touch. Making entertainment as the soul of the film, he
made the script ready in 2 weeks and called Nag from Vizag and told him
about the story line. After coming back to Hyderabad and getting nod
from Nag they started looking for a heroine who would look like native
telugu girl and for whom the sari would fit well. Everything was ready but
not the heroine, even after screen testing around 60 girls. Nag's choice was
Sonali where as KrishnaVamsy preferred Tabu. Later on both decided to cast Tabu as
heroine and KrishnaVamsy went on to meet her in Bombay and she was impressed by the story
line. After narrating the whole script later on in Chennai, she
was very excited and then the history happened in the form of Ninne Pelladatha
which was shot in 90 days. The main expense of the movie is the hero's residence set
which cost 75lakhs to erect.
Tabu was so beautiful in sari and S.P.Sailaja's voice added much
more beauty to the character of Pandu. Chalapthi Rao, Laxmi and everyone
else gave excellent performances. Both love and entertainment went hand in
hand to make it a blockbuster and win National Award as the best regional
film. KrishnaVamsy was complemented both for natural dialogues and for getting
excellent performances from all the characters in the films. Thus he proved again
that he can do magic with movies.
Sindhuram
KrishnaVamsy wanted to make the film on his own where he can show all his creative work
without any binding to box-office.
With this in mind he started Andhra-Talkies to produce films to fulfill his creative urge
towards a social cause.
KrishnaVamsy was so influenced after seeing 'Bad-Boys' that he wanted to make
that kind of movie with our village backdrop showing "konaseema andalu". He
always thought about why people are being killed without a reason when doing
their job or when fighting against corruption. Why most of us read it in the
news and just ignore it. This dwelled him like devil and he decided to make a film about this
issue. He saw all the naxalite movies which said to take the gun as the
message. But KrishnaVamsy's Sindhuram started where other movies ended
and this movie did not give a message instead it showed what would happen
and how hard lives become as people kill one another. One dialogue in the
movie reminds that every one is human and everybody is fighting for justice
-"police lu yentha mandi chanipoyaru, naxals yenthamandi chanipoyaru
ani adagatam kadu manushulu yenthamnadi chanipoyaru ani adagandi."
KrishnaVamsy used red color as the back-drop for all the scenes in the movie. It
took 130 days to complete the shooting of the film. KrishnaVamsy knew Brahmaji for a
long time and he made others know how good is Brahmaji at acting and
looks. Brahmaji gave great performance as BulliRaju. Ravi Teja was asst.
director for Ninne Pelladatha and KrishnaVamsy came to know about his timing in dialogues,
walking style and imitation skills at that time and casted him for the
role of 'chanti' which later on became his name in most of his movies. Sanghavi
herself admitted that she was shocked to see her that good on screen.
KrishnaVamsy lost so much money with Sindhuram. But he gained place in the hearts of many
telugu film lovers with this movie. His movie won Nandi's in many
categories. The song 'ArdhaSatabdapu' is a worth mention and
Sirivennala penned beautiful lyrics for all the songs. KrishnaVamsy says he is so proud of
Sindhuram and he has no regrets for making that film and it is his best
till date. He says his anger, mischief, failure and innocence was reflected
in the characters of Sindhuram. Even if it did not fare well at the
box-office we can say Sindhuram is an achievement.
ChandraLekha
Next film is Chandralekha. Nag was in surprise when KrishnaVamsy said he will
direct the film. Nag did not believe if KrishnaVamsy would remake a film. This
film is made after Sindhuram, and KrishnaVamsy was emotionally exhausted. Both Nag and KrishnaVamsy
knew that it wouldn’t run but Nag was very happy to make this film. The film
was completed in 77 days and was an average flick at Box Office. There were rumors
in the industry that Nag helped KrishnaVamsy with his financial problems after the
bad fate of Sindhuram and so KrishnaVamsy agreed to remake Priyadarshan and Fazal's
film in turn. KrishnaVamsy detached himself from the movie as the soul of that film did
not belong to him. The songs and the dialogues still has KrishnaVamsy's touch
even though its a remake.
Anthapuram
KrishnaVamsy came across the movie "Not without my Daughter" which was based on a real story.
It’s a mind blowing documentary on
Betty Mohammed, an American woman married to an Iraqi fundamentalist. Most of the scenes in the movie were so disturbing
that he could not stop thinking about those incidents. He came to know that most of the top directors and actresses tried
to adapt the movie but failed. It was a story of an educated girl who comes from a civilized culture and gets trapped in
a primitive society and how she fights to get out of those cruel surroundings. After getting the soul of the movie he
decided to work on the script. At that time TammaReddy Bharadwaj approached KrishnaVamsy to make a film for him.
Bharadwaj is financially
broken at that time and KrishnaVamsy wanted to help him because he was the only guy who supported him when he was
thrown out of AOR.
So KrishnaVamsy narrated the story line of Indianized version of Not without my Daughter – ‘An Indian girl in Mauritius….
goes to Rayalaseema…a faction filled place….and struggles to come back. After listening to the story line Bharadwaj
told KrishnaVamsy that he was actually trying to adapt "Not without my Daughter" for a long time but could not Indianize it.
Bharadwaj
is so impressed with the story line of Anthapuram and was ready to produce it.
KrishnaVamsy identifies the character of Bhanumati who
struggles in between two different environments, two standards of living and two contrasting ways of expressing same
opinion.
With script in hand, KrishnaVamsy asked Arvind Swamy to play the role played by Sai Kumar.
Arvind Swamy like the script but was not
interested to play the role because he had a bitter experience with straight telugu films.
So KrishnaVamsy approached Jagapathi Babu
for that role and he too is not interested for the role of Bhanumati’s husband because he had done a lot of husband roles,
instead he said he would like to do the other role which was already decided for Ravi Teja.
After all these, KrishnaVamsy casted Sai
Kumar and Jagapathi Babu for those roles. Soundarya was Bharadwaj’s choice as she has good market but
KrishnaVamsy is not so
interested in casting her. Later on KrishnaVamsy admitted that he realized her acting skills while shooting the movie
and Bharadwaj
made a right choice. KrishnaVamsy could not even get a reasonable budget for that film as the producers
could not afford it. So he
completed the shooting of Anthapuram in 47 days and the movie was released. Initially there was bad talk but the movie and it
picked up slowly. It won nandi awards and was appreciated by viewers and the filmy people
but KrishnaVamsy is not proud of it.
He says it is just 20% of what he thought it would have been.
Prakash Raj who played narasimha has done a wonderful job.
Both his delivery in dialogues and his action face expressions not only bought him awards but made the character
live in the hearts of movie fans. Soundarya and Jagapathi Babu played the emotions very well.
Ilayaraja scored good music. Anthapuram has become first of its kind in Indian Movies which shows the
other angle of a women oriented movies.
Samudram
Samudram is KrishnaVamsy’s next film. Jagapathi Babu played the role of Sagar who is innocent and who gets trapped and
framed for the murder done by someone else. How he reacts to that and how he comes out of it forms the crux of the film.
Sakshi played opposite to Jagapathi Babu. Prakash Raj played an innocent constable who is honest and helps Sagar.
Sivaji Raja gave his best performance till date in this movie. Tanikella Bharani and Ravi Teja played villain roles.
Even though KrishnaVamsy admitted Samudram as a worst movie he have ever made, it too has the touch of KrishnaVamsy in lot
of scenes.
The movie opens with a mind blowing escape scene.
Murari
Coming to Murari, it was inspired by a real incident which happened at a nearby village where he comes from.
There was an arrack contractor who has killed somebody in some business deal. His wife cursed the
contractor and after that his four sons died in different accidents very dramatically. This ‘usuru’ theme is shaped into
‘Murari’ after a thought process. The story is about the fight between supernatural power and determination in rich
countryside. He proved that if you haven’t done anything wrong and has a determination then nothing can harm you.
But why did sabari an innocent die? KrishnaVamsy tells that it’s her belief which made her think that way.
It was made in rich
joint-family and beautiful village back drop which is a fiesta for eyes.
Mahesh Babu gave a brilliant performance in the movie and Sonali is an instant winner. She is so beautiful in the movie.
Satyanarayana performed well and it was nice to see him after a long time. Manisharma gave melodious tunes and the
picturization of the songs is rich and superb. It was one of the biggest hits and KrishnaVamsy made his mark with a
different
subject which was appreciated by class and mass alike.
Final world
Krishna Vamsi leaves mark of his own on his movies. He leaves the KrishnaVamsy stamp on them.
He can make a violent love story,
a family entertainer, a social issue, a supernatural theme, a women oriented subject….whatever it is, he does justice
to the subject. He says making films is his reaction to whatever he sees and experience in life. The media and the movie
industry is going buzz about his yet to be released (29thNov) movie Khadgam. The critics who have seen some shots of
khadgam are saying that it will be one more ‘mutyam’ which is added to his chain of movies.
He was born on 28th July 1962. Has undergone hard times, pressure and pain to see himself as a successful person at the
age of 40. He is not yet married. When asked "why is he still single", he jokes that “I found many right girls but they
didn’t
find me right kind”. There are rumors all around our 'Murari' with Maheswari, Tabu, Sanghavi, Sakshi.
But this 'Krishna' always condemns them and says that he will go after a girl with a 'Gulabi' saying 'Ninne Pelladata'
when he meets an exciting girl. Whatever it is let us all wish him good luck in finding that exciting girl and for his
forthcoming movies.
