Chit chat with Ramana Gogula

Ramana Gogula is one of the most popular music director of the present times. He gave music to wide variety of films and most of them were musical hits. He was associated and repeated for Pawan Kalyan films several times. Films included Thammudu, Badri, Jhonny and recently Annavaram. Yogi, Lakshmi, Yuvaraju and several other films got him the due recognition.

Viyyalavari Kayyalu produced by Lagadapati Sridhar is ready for release on 1st of November. Ramana Gogula composed music for that film. A variety song Neelala.. is on the top of the charts for several weeks. TotalTollywood caught up with Ramana Gogula for a quick chat. Here are the excerpts.

Q: How is the appreciation and what kind of feedback did you got for your music in Viyyalavari Kayyalu?

Every movie is a new experience. I am very happy for the great response I got for VVK. The distributors seem to like the variety and variation in the songs. The youth are tripping on the melody tracks Neelala and its English version. Overall I am humbled at the awesome response.

Q: Tell us about the popular English song in the film?

Sometime when I compose tunes I use my own lyrics just as placeholders so that the directors and producers get an idea on how the song works. This time I wrote the lyrics in English. There was instant magic !!! we had a hit tune in our hands. So we kept it in the album

Q: Your music sounds like a pop album and you liberally use English words in the songs. Is this deliberate attempt from your side?

I do not create music with any preconcieved notions. I let it grow and take its own shape. That shape changes from movie to movie. Putting English words into a song completely depend on the directors taste.

Q: Tamil film music directors are easily overcoming the language barriers but same is not the case with our Telugu music composers. What do you see the reason?

We have MDs like Mani Sharma & Keeravani who have done films in Hindi very successfully. I myself have done albums in English. And the current MDs in telugu are being very creative with their compositions.

Q: Do you have any plans of going national (like composing Hindi film)?

If I get the right offer !!

Q: From a pop album composer to a top music director, how has been the journey?

I thank God for this experience. There is so much talent in this world that is equal or may be even better than mine, but the Universe has chosen me for this journey. I am grateful.

Q: Who do you feel the promising talent among current young music directors?

All of them have sparks of excellence.

Q: Is it necessary for a music director to sing a song in his films?

No !

Q: What is your take on the criticism that non-Telugu singers are ruining Telugu lyrics and language.

Its absurd. Who are we to judge this when the people accept the singers? They have made so manys songs such big hits. Movies are about entertainment. Lets keep it that way !!!!
