In what can be termed as a sorry state for low budget films, senior director Mutyala Subbaya's film Aalayam was removed from theaters with in 6 days of releasing. The film is based on joint family concept. A few members who already saw the film made efforts to bring it back into the theaters. Aalayam will release again on 15th of this month in Venkateswara Theater in Narayanaguda.
Talking about this Mutyala Subbayya said, 'Exhibitors are not even allowing the film to breathe. They are always looking for the cut off collections. If the collections are not up to the point, they are kicking the film out. Some films need a little while to pick up the pace. My previous films like Sagatu Manishi, Kalikalam etc gathered mediocre talk in the first weeks but then went on to run 100 days. Giving no breathing space for the film even initially is depriving the film of any good talk that it might get slowly. Add to it, theaters are a scarcity for small films. All we could secure are abandoned theaters on the outskirts'.
Rotary Club President Samala Venu also spoke to the media and said that the association is doing all the needed work to bring the movie back into the theaters.
Tilak, who played one of the key roles in the film, said that movies should be taken to the audience. 'In 79, when I was directing films, I suggested the Governments about this simple model of taking he movies to the audience. This will help the small films which have a problem finding the theaters. The model works simple. The film will be screened in all places with single print and a standard ticket price. Producer will get benefited by this. However, this proposal was never seriously considered', said Tilak.
