Biography
Sattiraju Laxminarayana, popularly known by his pen name Bapu, is one of the greatest personalities in Telugu film
industry. He set a style of his own both as a director and as an artist. Bapu bomma is usually referred to two things, a typcial portraits drawn by Bapu or a very traditional woman. One he created with the paint brush and
the other with a microphone.
Bapu was born on 15th December 1993 in Narasapur, West Godavari dist. He graduated with a degree in Law from Madras University. He entered film industry along with Mullapudi Venkataramana, a writer. His friendship with Venakataramana dates back to the time when they worked at Andhra Patrika from 1955-1960. Bapu entered film industry as an assistant producer. It was in 1967, he took to direction.
Sakshi, Krishna starrer, is his first film. Story is written by MUllapudi Venkataramana. A cartoonist turned director, Bapu has established own trademark for his style in direction. He appealed to every section of the audience
with his exceptional style in fusing the traditional, artistic and classical elements.'
Sakshi was just a start. Mutyalamuggu, Manavuri Pandavulu, Kaliyuga ravanasurudu were just few to quote from his
social films. He deftly handled mythological films also by bringing Bhakta Kanappa to life on screen. Sri Ramanjaneya
Yuddham, Sampoorna Ramayanam are some of his other mythological films.
Bapu won many awards. Bapu along with Venkataramana were awarded doctorate by Andhra University. Bapu was felicitated
with prestigious Ragupathi Venkayya award, in 1987, for his services to the film industry.
