Spiderman 3 is one of the awaited films this summer. This time he comes with more anti-heroes to fight - one within himself (black suit that transforms Peter), Sandman and Venom. Ofcourse, this is not counting the Peter's fight with his close buddy Harry.
The film starts off with an impressive aerial battle between the Spiderman and Harry (who wants to take revenge for his father's death). Harry goes into a short term memory loss in this battle. While Peter starts taking care of his friend Harry, a weird black sticky organism starts making its moves. On the other hand, an escaped convict Flint turns into a Sandman. He gets the power to become a huge sand structure. This part is effectively narrated and raises curiosity.
After an hour of Spiderman adventures, the writers decided to add some melodrama for making Peter discover the compassion that makes him a hero and his love for MJ. This episode drags on for about an hour. The mood of Spiderman changes into watching a melodrama act of love, jealous, envy, humiliation, and revenge. Narration suffers here for a while.
Slowly things fall in place towards the end. The last 20-30 minutes bring life into the film again. The last half hour presents some good action moments with excellent graphics and the curtains down after the evil is eliminated in a dramatic style.
Tobey Maguire played Peter Parker, the spiderman. Kirten Dunst played MJ, the love interest of Peter. Topher Grace (Eric from That 70s Show) as Eddie is the rival photographer to Peter Parker at the Bugels Daily. Thomas Haden Church (Sideways fame) is the Sandman. James Franco is Harry Osborn. Bryce Dallas Howard (The Village, Lady in the Water fame) appears in a small role as Gwen Stacy.
Personally, I liked first two better than the third. However, the film satisfies with good action sequences that are expected of Spiderman. It can be given a shot and the graphics are worth a watch. Thankfully I got to see the film on IMAX at Prasads, Hyderabad and the experience is awesome.
