Narasimhudu - Review
Narasimhudu is released with good hype. Thanks to the "100 days in 202 centers" ad and the pre-release crisis that raised enough anxiety.
Barring NTR, who performed excellent, the film has nothing else to offer and fails to impress.
Narasimhudu (NTR) hails from Kondaveedu. His parents dedicate their life for the village. Narasimhudu is raised by the village folks as their own child. One unfortunate incident done by 2 evil guys set the villagers emotions on fire. In order to take the revenge on the villains, Narasimhudu
enter the city. Watch it on silverscreen to see how he manages to take his revenge and why he wants to take the revenge.
NTR is simply superb in his role - as a angry young man burning with the desire to finish the evil, as a naughty guy teasing his niece,
as a responsible person taking care of the village - NTR did 100% justice to his character. He proved his ease again with dances and fights.
This kind of role is a piece of cake for NTR. He is used to talking revenge in his eyes (Adi, Simhadri, Samba). He did a great job in the emotional scenes.. especially in the scenes involving his sister.
Amisha Patel played Subbu, maradalu to NTR. She impressed with her innocent looks and delivered a decent performance. She did okay with dances.
Sameera Reddy played Kerala Kutti who runs a milk center. She falls in love with NTR. She did an average performance. Nevertheless, she did a great job
on dance floor with NTR. Her character scope itself is limited to songs.
Kalabhavan Mani did an impressive work as one of the villains - Poturaju. His variety expressions will impress the audience. Punit Issar,
Jeevi, Rahul Dev did not get any scope and they are not at all impressive. Asish Vidyarthi as police commissioner did a decent job.
Comedy is inserted through Ali and Brahmanandam. Comedy is let down in the film and so are the characters. Chalapati Rao, Manorama did their roles to content.
Ravishankar provided the story. There is nothing novel. The claim of the makers on several occassions that the hero takes care of the village raised the expectations in a different way. Based on the comments, one would think that there might be some evil approaching the village and the hero would stop it. But, the story finally comes out as any regular revenge film.
Also in earlier NTR's films , there is a gripping excitement about the way NTR confronts the villains or eliminiates them. This film totally lacked it. Paruchuri Bros provided screenplay and dialogues. It is better to talk about dialogues than screenplay. Paruchuri Bros did an exceptional job with dialogues. The 2 minute dialogue that the dialogue writers were boasting about during the Narasimhudu audio function is really impactful. Audience will applaud for NTR dialogue delivery in that 2 minute scene. Paruchuri penned some terrific dialogues. Here is a sample
Modati thappuki chethi debba, rendo thappuki chaavu debba
Paga pattina paamu kaatu ki dorakku, kasi pattina narasimhuni vetuki dorakku
aalochana chitiki pothey aavesam rajyam chesthundhi .
Also there are some lighter vein dialogues like
Bandaru ladu, beechi oddu, bhoomika boddu
Eeyanaki chaduvu takkuva, champatalu ekkuva
Songs placement is another big drawback. The songs comeup to make the audience wonder if there are too many songs in this film.
Trademark of director B.Gopal can be seen with songs, sumo blasts and sentimental scenes. However, the tempo is not maintained in the film. Kotagiri's editing and Ravindra Babu's camera work are okay. Ravindra Babu did a good job with overseas locations.
Anand Sai's sets for the songs came out in good taste.
Manisharma's music for the songs and background are so so. Singu Singu, Yeluko Nayaka are decent. In the second half there is a song - Rajamundry ke rangasanivey, special appearance done by Arti Agarwal - comes in full mass beat and is good. Vijay composed some thrilling fights in this film. The fight with the football players is pictured good. However, the effect is diluted with overuse of visual effects.
Overall, the first 20 minutes of the film goes at a good pace. Hero introduction scene is done very well. Songs occur frequently and a bland comedy follows only to make it boring. NTR utters his first dialogue in the film right before the interval and it comes with a bang. This raises the expectations for the second half. There is nothing in the second half to stand to that kind of raised expectations. However, first half-an-hour of the second half goes in an entertaining way. Once the melodrama and action part takes off, the film starts going in a different direction.
Protagonist eliminating the evil is pictured in a bland style. This is another drawback in the film. Barring NTR's excellent performance, there is nothing much to expect from this film.
