Chakram - Review
Chakram is about a guy and his life. Chakram (Prabhas) is the son of faction leader Prakashraj and Urvasi. The film takes off
with Chakram running away from home to avoid his marriage with Lakshmi (Asin). Chakram settles in Sahara estates in Hyderabad.
There lives a number of families. Each family has got their own problems. Chakram solves the problems of these families in his own style.
He brings in confidence into one of the girls in the colony named Lakshmi (Charmi). Eventually Lakshmi falls in love with Chakram. Meanwhile
the Lakshmi he is engaged to finds him in Hyderabad and conveys the same to Chakram's parents. All come there to find out that
Chakram is love with the Lakshmi, resident of Sahara estates. Why did he break his marriage with his love Lakshmi and why is he planning to
marry the Lakshmi living in sahara estates should be seen on the silver screen.
Performance wise, Prabhas is marvellous. Especially in the sentiment scenes, Prabhas's acting comes out to prove the curve in
his performance. The characterization of the role is so good that it provides ample scope to perform various emotions and Prabhas
excelled at it. His new hairstyle gave him much better look. However, this is totally different from what the fans of Prabhas
might expect.
Charmi has got better scope than Asin in this film. Both of them did their characters with ease. However, Charmi takes the marks for the
kind of role she did. Highlight of the film is Prakashraj. He is fantastic in the role of Chakram's father. MS Narayana is successful
in brining out good comedy as a drunkard. Padbhanabham is seen on the screen after a long time. He still has that knack.
Venu Madhav, Thanikella Bharani, Raghubabu, Mallikarjuna Rao, AVS, Gowtam Raju and others did their roles to the content.
The story of the film is based on Jagamantha Kutumbam nadhi song penned by Sirivennela long time ago.
Krishnvamsi's visualization of the story is pretty good. Though the story is carved out
and conceptualized well, the narration is pretty slow and dampens the pace of the film.
Many places the dragging factor is felt. Narration is a big drawback in this one.
The direction has definitely got the trademark of Krishnavamsi. He came up with such a good concept also.
He should have paid more attention and given a completeness to the script.
He should have given a convincing explanation for Charmi's father having 2 wives.
Since the concept of the film
is dealing about the problems in life, audience expect an answer for that one too. Especially after Chakram himself claims that there might
a strong reason behind two wives, it should have been revealed. Also, in the second half the sentiment comes in overdose and there is a total
miss on the entertainment or relief elements. So the film tends to get heavy towards the end. Some of the scenes are quite predictable and
remind of some scenes from different films. The pranks that Chakram play to make Charmi laugh seem to be heavily inspired from Kal Ho Na Ho.
Also, few others scenes remind the audience of old Hindi films Anand and Baavarji.
So on the whole, Chakram is kind of a disappointment. Some more to add to these are repeated preachings by the hero, very unsituational song - Sony Cell phone.
This song comes in an emotional time when Asin finds that Prabhas and Charmi are in love.
Moving on to the strong points of the film technically, lyrics are a big asset. Jagamanta Kutumbam song stands as a highlight.
Chakri composed touching music for this one. This song is haunting and is bound to remain with the audience. Konchem Karamgaa, Oke Okka mata are very good.
Background score by Chakri is very good. Camera by Ramprasad, Om Prakash, Aravind Krishna is OK. Though there is only one fight in the film, stunt Sivan composed
it very exciting.
First half of the film runs with lot of chases. Hero introduction is a chase scene that runs for about 15 minutes. That could have been cut short.
With a little bit of humour first half passes on. Second half goes heavy with sentiment. Towards the climax, the film gathers tempo again.
The last 20 - 30 minutes of the film is excellent. Slick screenplay and cutdown on some preachings would have definitely
made this film much better.
